Luliana Leila Lopes Vieira da Costa (born February 26, 1986, age 25 years) is a beauty contest also Angola who was crowned Miss Angola 2011 and then Miss Universe 2011.
Personal Life
Leila Lopes was born in Benguela, Angola. Her mother came from the Province of Benguela and her father was born in Cuanza Sul province. Lopes was a student of business management in the UK. She was crowned Miss Angola UK on October 8, 2010 as the official representative of Angolan society in the United Kingdom to show Miss Angola 2011, which lasted two months later in Luanda.
Miss Angola UK - she won this title on October 8, 2010 and obtained the right to take part in the election of Miss Angola 2011, but the victory he achieved in community protests Angola in the UK, due to the fact that he was not a resident of England, as such, she does not qualifies.
Miss Angola - was held in Luanda on December 18, 2010, obtained the right to represent Angola in Miss Universe 2011.She also obtained Photogenic award during the contest.
Miss Universe 2011 - in São Paulo, Brazil on 12 September 2011. She became the first of Angola who won the title of Miss Universe and win the 60th. Lopes received the title from former champion Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete of Mexico. Lopes was the fourth African woman to win the title since the early contests held around the world (South Africa, 1978; Namibia, 1992; Botswana, 1999; and Angola, 2011) and The second African to win the title after [Mpule Kwelagobe] Miss Universe 1999 from Botswana. Lopes also became the first woman from Angola who won a "Big Four" beauty contest, and the first black African woman to win Miss Universe in the new millennium.
Charges of falsifying documents and bribery
Argentina Infobae newspaper published a report on September 17, 2011, stating that Lopes is not fair when allowed to participate in the competition for Miss Angola UK citizens living in Britain, although he never lived outside of Angola. The new allegations emerged claiming that the documents falsified to indicate the legal residence status in the United Kingdom and Angola won the Miss England contest qualifications. If proven true, he would lose the title of Miss Universe. The report stated that a man named Charles Mukano, promoter Angola, helped falsify documents identifying himself as a business management student at an English school and possibly bribing judges in England to ensure victory Lopes, allowing her to enter and win contests Lopes interviewed on PIX11 Morning News on September 19, where she said the controversy was not true and that all documents were real.
